History
The Vladimir/Canterbury Sister City Association (VCSCA) was organized in 1986 as an extension of the citizen-to-citizen movement of Sister City International. In 1988 our first citizenís delegation visited the USSR to select a sister city. Vladimir was proposed, along with a tri-city relationship with Canterbury, England. In 1989, a delegation from Vladimir traveled to Bloomington-Normal to sign the formal agreement. Since its beginnings, the Vladimir/Canterbury Sister City Association has facilitated exchanges of students, athletes, educators, artists, business people, medical personnel, and government officials. The association has also sponsored programs for the enrichment of our community and maintains two gardens that commemorate the relationship among our sister cities of Vladimir and Canterbury.
